Today I took a bunch of broiler chickens to the butcher. This is the last group for 2017. It’s just too cold and rainy from now until Spring to leave chickens out on pasture. This batch was especially frustrating because we lost so many chickens to predators. This is the last time I’ll leave chickens so exposed. They’re an easy meal for just about every meat-eating animal around – bobcat, skunk, raccoon, owl, hawk, etc. We put up an electrified fence to try to protect them. It didn’t stop the predators, but it was good for snaring our goats. Here’s little Minerva patiently waiting for me to unwrap her. They try to get into the chicken area to eat their food.
